Only 2 weeks til launch, and we’ve been hard at work planning with our local independent Irish Data Centres, crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s, making sure the following areas are covered:
- Security: Security is our top priority and we’re testing both with our data centre partners and through our partnership with SecForce.
- Power Failovers: What happens when the power goes out? For how long can they run off-grid and how often are the backups tested?
- Compliance: The data centres must meet the most rigorous compliance standards.
- Technical specifications: As we’re trying to pin down a sensible set of figures for block-producing nodes when it comes to hardware, who better to do that with than our fellow block producers? Chief Technical Officer Sam Noble has been problem-solving with other block producers to decide on the best answers. At this point, a faster CPU is more important than buckets of RAM, so we BPs are trying to find a nice starting point. Our initial gut feeling is around the 62GB mark, with the ability to scale quickly. Bear in mind, this is the minimum we should support; most of us will almost certainly start higher.
- Security: We’re working in partnership with SecForce to create a black-box test to give us insight into our security strategy and help discover any vulnerabilities we might have missed. We’re still going over the proposal and will execute the security test soon. By simulating security breaches with SecForce, we’ll be prepared to address any potential threats.
- Booting the network: There are various strategies among block producers for booting the network after EOS launches. This is a significant discussion that affects all of us. We’re part of the conversation and advocating for security and stability in all of our planning.
