“What is important is rarely complex and what is complex is rarely important.”
We are getting close to having our first referendum on EOS Mainnet. This has been a tremendous community effort to build critical infrastructure without which we have been adrift at sea and wounded by hundreds of tiny cuts.
We have problems in EOS, that is without doubt. What is unclear is what our vision and direction should be. Without a coherent approach on how to ask token holders on what is simply important we will fail.
There has been endless conversations and calls dissecting every word of our current constitution. There is working groups formed to work on how exactly we should best craft a referendum question. But as I type this, after 6 months live, we don’t have a single question ready to be put to a referendum.
We have been too busy keeping ourselves busy to be effective. And the market and community are punishing us for it.
I have never read The Irish Constitution, but I have also never been arrested. I do however know the words to our national anthem and I stand and sing it whenever it is played.
I have read all of the proposals for constitution and user agreements for EOS, and I have come to the conclusion that they don’t matter. What matters is the culture we have, we need an equivalent of a national anthem, a song to sing as we go into battle, which unites us in a common purpose.
I have been accused recently of floating ideas without the follow through to make them a reality. “The equivalent of happy path coding” is the charge Thomas Cox levelled at one of my recent telegram posts. He also said on our podcast that “the feeling when you are wrong is exactly the same as feeling when you are right until the point you realise you are wrong”.
All the while the EOS academics and governance junkies are busy crafting new reams of text to argue over , the builders and entrepreneurs are getting on with business. Creating apps, tokens and markets, thinking about new ways to do business and to add value. They do this in spite of the governance mess we have.
So what do we do now?
How do we get from here to there?
Do we even know what there is?
What is EOS ?
What should it be?
The best I’ve heard so far we want EOS to be “The Safe Blockchain”
And how we get there is with a plan which we can vote on, an action agenda to tidy up all of the questions we currently have to enable us to get back to business.
Hat tip to Mr. & Mrs. Yeates from eosDAC who were up late drinking with me in Oslo when we came up with this idea first. We need a mantra I said, something Trump style which people can get at first glance.
“Make EOS Great Again” — MEGA
So I would like to propose we only put MEGAs up for referendum. These should solve multiple questions and provide a mandate and direction for the next 12–24 months.
Here is our MEGA
- Pre-Approve REX implementation (once fully tested)
- Ratify EOS New York — User Agreement (after another review cycle)
- Approve $100k for the completion of development of https://workerproposal.com/
- Reduce Inflation to 2.5% overall and Seed fund $2m for the eosio.wps account from eosio.saving
- Mandate ECAF to limit scope to only smart contract disputes.
- Allow ECAF time and funding (through eosio.wps) to clear the current backlog. (Doing this will allow them to show their capability and professionalism and provide them with a way to find their right place in the ecosystem or it will allow them to fail)
If you have any better ideas, speak up. We need you.
